New Year’s Resolutions – Great to get you going or just bad news?

It is early January of a fresh year and there has been resolutions made by millions of people all over the world. There are a lot of us out there that swear that we have never made a resolution. It is absolutely nonsense and nothing good ever comes of it. Others make resolutions every year, most of them exactly the same as the previous year and stick with them for round about 2 weeks, maybe a month. The question begs. Is a New Year’s Resolution something that is evil and bad habits will creep in any way or is it something that makes a person think about all the bad habits and how they can turn them into good ones? If you really dissect it to the bone, you will realize that a New Year’s resolution is a goal dressed in fluff. Looking at it a little closer and you will realize that goals are the things that set you apart from the members of society that do not set goals. It is a proven fact that people who set goals are more successful in live than people who decide to shoot from the hip. They do say that the process of goal setting helps you choose where you want to go in live. If you know what you want to achieve you know where to start concentrating your efforts. The problem with resolutions are that they only stay spoken words and never actually go through the whole goal setting process. Another reason for setting goals the correct way is that they are incredibly motivating and if you keep on setting goals you will build self confidence as you reach each and every one of your goals. But like I said, resolutions are but the first step of proper goal setting. Goal setting is not just for the normal people like you and me, professional athletes and all major successful business people. Your goals must be broken down into pieces if you want to achieve it. It usually starts with the big picture, which, in this case, is your New Year’s Resolution. Now that you have the big picture, you can break it down into smaller, more manageable goals. This is where we veer off the beaten track. We never break our resolutions down into smaller pieces, thus, we drop it after a couple of weeks of struggling. When all your goals are broken down it is all down to you to start working on achieving each and every one of them to reach your ultimate goal. It is also very important to make sure that when you do your resolutions/goal setting to have the holistic approach to life. Include family and friends in your goals. Life happens and we need to rather be prepared than to work around it. This will only cause you to drop your good intentions because you did not plan properly. Next time you hear someone say that they don’t make New Year’s Resolutions maybe it is because they don’t know how to set goals for themselves or maybe it is because they have already achieved all they wanted in live. Either or, resolutions are the first step in setting goals for yourself, personally and professionally. The trick is to go on and do all the steps that follows a good resolution or idea. Do your New Year’s Resolutions this year. Put it on paper and plan. This time next year you will thank yourself for doing it.
